Maruti 800 is a small car with a light engine, ideal to drive in crowded cities of India. Launched way back in 1984, it created records for car sales in India. However, Maruti Udyog Limited, its maker, has now decided to phase it out. For they feel its demand would see rapid downward trend after arrival of Tata Nano, termed the new Peoples� Car. Design and Interior
Maruti 800 has undergone several modifications since its inception. Clear lens multi-reflector headlights were added to make the car more attractive. Green tinted glasses are present in AC cars. The front of the car wears stylish trapezoid look. The thinner and narrower seats permit 4 persons to seat comfortably. The car has sliding front seats, new head restraints, glove compartment and front door pocket, floor and room carpets, airflow controls, side impact beams, front wipers, windshield washer and head lamp leveling device.
Three cabin lights are present in the car at different positions. Striking indicators and Dual Tone interior add to the impression of the car. Round indicators give taillamps a better look. A family of four can ride comfortably in Maruti 800.
Variants, Price and Mileage
The car is available in Standard and A/C versions in metallic and non-metallic colors. It is available in the price range of around Rs 2 lakhs.
Engine
The engince produces approximately 37 bph (28 kW) of power. It consists of 4-gear, 4-stroke, and 800 cc water cooled engine having three two-valves-cylinders. The pistol displacement is 796cc. Maruti800 has a fuel tank of capacity of 28 liters for petrol.
Safety
Thanks to the presence of specially allocated crumble zone which absorbs the impact of accident, Maruti 800 ensures safe journey. It is equipped with front and rear seat belts to provide more safety.
