Modernization Plans
Nagpur International Airport is soon going to become one of the major international airports of India. It is stipulated that by 2025, the airport will be capable of handling 50 aircraft daily and 14 million passengers in a year. The modernization work of the airport is progressing at a good pace - almost 70% of the work has been completed. The brand new addition to the existing building is the terminal buildings measuring 91,000 sq ft. The new building would comfortably handle as many as 600 passengers at a time.
A high-tech medical center, with state-of-the-art facilities, is also in the cards, for Nagpur Airport. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has decided to collaborate with a well known hospital group in Nagpur, to establish a 24-hour medical care centre in the premises of the airport. With a view to provide cost-effective alternative to transport to and from airport, the AAI has planned to commence a pre-paid taxi and auto rickshaws services. In addition to this, Vansh Nimaya Infraprojects Ltd has plans to operate Star Bus in the city, to enable the passengers to commute between the airport and the center of the city.
Airlines
Currently, five domestic airlines are operating from Nagpur International Airport. These include Air-India Express (Ahmedabad, Mumbai), Indian Airlines (Delhi, Mumbai, Raipur), IndiGo Airlines (Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Pune), JetLite (Indore, Mumbai) and Kingfisher Airlines (Bangalore, Hyderabad, Indore, Pune). Two international airlines, namely Air Arabia (Sharjah) and Air-India Express (Dubai), are also operating from the airport.
