Jaspal Rana is one of the most outstanding shooters India has ever produced. Born on 28 June 1976, Rana lent a glamorous touch to the sober game of shooting, both with his astounding achievements and with his good looks. Contesting primarily the 25 m Centre Fire Pistol category, Rana has secured medals for a number of times. He has won a gold medal at the 1994 Asian Games, 2006 Commonwealth Games and 2006 Asian Games as well. Career
Jaspal Rana made his first appearance at a shooting competition held at the national level, at the tender age of 12. It was at that time, when he grabbed a silver medal at the 31st National Shooting Championship held at Ahmadabad in 1988. Six years later, Rana shot into limelight, when he competed in Standard Pistol and won a gold at the 46th World Shooting Championship (Junior Section). Thereafter, he set a world record score at Milan in Italy in 1994. Since then, Rana has been honored with galore in both domestic and international events, many a times, rewriting the records set in the shooting sport.
Jaspal Rana twice equaled the world record score of 590 points in Centre Fire Pistol event for two times - first at the National Shooting Championship at Coimbatore in 1995 and the second at the National Games held at Bangalore in 1997. Though Centre Fire Pistol is Rana's favorite event wherein he scores the best, he also did well in Air Pistol, Standard Pistol, Free Pistol and Rapid Fire Pistol.
Awards
Jaspal Rana was conferred the Arjuna Award in 1994, for his excellence in the shooting sport in India. At the age of twenty one, he became a Padma Shree recipient. He was bestowed with the National Citizen award by Mother Teresa.
Career In Politics
Apart from being an ace Indian shooter, Jaspal Rana is interested in the politics of the Indian democracy. He is a member of one of the prominent political parties of India - the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Soon after taking part in the Asian Games, Rana announced his interest in campaigning for the party as well as contesting elections.
Personal Life
Jaspal Rana has tied the wedding knot with Reena Rana, who is a professional fashion designer and national level shooter. The couple has two children - daughter Devanshi and son Yuvraj.
