The New Queen's Park cricket stadium was built in 1998 as part of the
newly constructed National Stadium complex in St George's, Grenada. Also
known as the National Cricket Stadium, the New Queen's Park stadium
became the 84th Test venue in 2002 when it hosted a Test between West
Indies and New Zealand.
As the brand new stadium was gearing up for the 2007 ICC World Cup, it
suffered extensive damage when Hurricane Ivan scythed through the
Caribbean in September, 2004. The roofing for the covered stands as well
as the fittings that made up the double-decker stands at the cricket
stadium was destroyed by the hurricane winds.
The Queens Park Stadium in Grenada will host six of the 24 Super Eight
matches in the 2007 World Cup.
