Popularly known as "The Queen of Hills", Mussoorie is a famous tourist place in Uttarakhand. It is 34 km away from Dehradun and is situated in the foothills of Himalaya Ranges. Though the normal altitude of Mussoorie is about 1,880 meters, Lal Tibba which is the highest point has an altitude of about 2,290 meters. The history of Mussoorie dates back to 1820 when Captain Young of British army, accidentally discovered Mussoorie. Stunned by the heavenly beauty of the place, he decided to make it his residence. He along with Mr. Shore, the superintendent of Revenues at Dehradun, jointly constructed a shooting lodge in Mussoorie in 1825. The place soon had a military cantonment and became a favored destination for British, to unwind and relax in the lap of nature. Encircled by greenery all around, Mussorie's picturesque beauty struck a chord with everyone, young and old.

Mussorie has derived it name from "mansoor" a plant indigenous to Mussoorie. This is probably the reason why Mussoorie is often referred to as Mansoorie by the locals. Nestled at the foothills of the Himalayan Range, Mussoorie serves as the refuge for thousands of domestic and international tourists, every year. The serene beauty, picturesque landscape, favorable climate and exotic location make Mussoorie an idyllic vacation spot, away from the hustle bustle of city life. Gunhill is the second highest point in Mussoorie and is famous for the cable cars that are used to reach there. It also provides bird's eye view of the whole Mussoorie city and Doon valley. Apart from these, there are various waterfalls in nearby places of Mussoorie; some of the important ones being Kempty Fall, Bhatta Fall and Jharipani Fall. Kempty Falls are 15 Km away from Mussoorie and situated on Yamunotri Road. It is one of the best and biggest waterfalls in the valley and is famous for summer baths. Others places of interest can be Lakha Mandal, Dhanolti and Naga Tibba which are perfect excursion spots for adventure lovers.
