Aromatherapy is an ancient method of holistic healing
using essential oils extracted from plants. It invigorates not only the
body, but also mind and spirit. The essence of aromatherapy lies in the
healing power of essential oils. These oils can be utilized in three
ways - firstly by applying directly, secondly by inhaling and finally by
bathing in water (added with a few drops of oil). Reiki, the practice of
spiritual healing, when combined with aromatherapy, brings holistic
effects (together with that of aroma oils).
Combination of various essential oils, which can be grounding,
stimulating, sensual, calming or strengthening with Reiki, reveals
different aspects in the treatment. Infact, the healing system, along
with aromatherapy, is getting tremendous recognition. In this united
therapy, some essential oils are directly applied on particular areas of
the body; otherwise an aroma lamp is used to fill the room with
fragrance.
For example, Lavender oil is a stimulant used in aromatherapy, which is
believed to have relaxing effects. When combined with Reiki, the oil is
usually meant for a recipient who is frail and sensitive. It helps to
develop confidence and energy in long period of Reiki. Known for its
relaxing and antiseptic effects, Sandalwood Oil is believed to induce
trust and confidence between the practitioner and recipient, while
creating ambiance for Reiki therapy.
Clary sage is prized for being a refresher, antispasmodic,
antidepressant, anti-inflammatory and bactericidal. Reiki utilizes Clary
sage to open blocked channels and increase sensitivity. Likewise
Patchouli is valued for its aphrodisiac qualities, and Reiki uses it for
treating allergies and skin problems. It also helps to improve sensual
qualities and quality of life. Thus, Aromatherapy in Reiki is an
additional approach to use the spiritual art of universal energy in a
better way.
