Ear infections are one of the most common diseases in
infants and children. It is often, caused due to accumulation of fluid
in the middle ear that results in growth of germs. In an ear infection,
fluid fills in the middle ear, which is very painful when it presses
against the eardrum. For children already suffering from cold, allergy
or sinus infection, the risk of getting ear infection is high. It may
cause your baby to cry constantly, even between feedings and at night
and would not like to lie flat. If the baby's ears look infected, then
immediately call a doctor, who may prescribe an antibiotic. If ear
infections are persistent, then they may result in hearing loss and
consequent speech delay. To prevent germs from entering the ear, control
allergens such as cigarette smoke, dust, and animal dander, because they
can cause fluid buildup in the ear. The goals for treating ear
infections is to relieve pain, curing the infection, preventing
complications and recurrent ear infections
